Update (December, 23th 2021)

A little update,

Since I was completing my training for work this year, I did not have time to continue with the research this year. The plan is to pick this up again in 2022!
In any case, I want to try to fill the site with more information about the crew and the missions they have flown.

Tips about what else would be nice on the site are always welcome!

Update (February, 17th 2020)

Between my daily job, school and private stuff i’m still researching the crash of the ED821. Nice to see that people know about this website or find their way in contacting me to provide me with sometimes new information.

The SMAMF (Missing Airmen Memorial Foundation) has managed to find the family of Eric Short and James Parker Fitchett and the first contact has been made.
To be continued!

Added to the website:
The Fatal Mission… (Still researching/looking for information)
-Other information;
Graveyard Leeuwarden
Graveyard Witmarsum

The Watch of Leonard Arthur Townrow

Almost one year ago on the 28th of September 2018 I received a package from Australia containing the watch that the pilot, Leonard Arthur Townrow, of Lancaster ED821 lost during his bailout. My great-grandfather found it in 1946 and my grandparents gave it back to the sister of Leonard. This sister wish was to donate it to the Frisian Resistance museum in Leeuwarden. This never happened… Until now!

After getting in touch with the family in 2017 they wanted to donate the watch to the museum. I donated the watch on behalf of the family of Leonard Arthur Townrow. Very special and nice to do! The watch is donated in May 2019 to the museum.

Found almost all the familys of the crewmembers!

I did the last months a lot of research, received lots of information from the family’s, and from visitors of this website. It’s good to see people can find this website! A few weeks ago Rose from England send me a message, she had some pictures of the war graves of the boys in Witmarsum just short after they were buried and a picture of a parade during the liberation of Witmarsum. Rose her father was a soldier in the Royal Artillerie.

A this moment I’m planning to make a timeline to make the puzzle complete. So if you do have any informative that could help me please let me know! You can mail me on info@crew-ed821.nl

Also I’m still looking for the family members of James Parker Fitchett
